The founding members of Andrew Industries started out by supplying the UK laundry sector with a range of woven ironer cloths and bags and traded from a market stall in the north Lancashire town of Bury

Officially Registered at Companies House, Edward W Andrew Ltd, Walshaw Road, Bury

The second generation took the step up to manufacturing and established the factory on Walshaw Road, Bury. The principle activities were weaving and felt making for the laundry industry, carpet underlay, blanket and bomb packing felts

Founding of the Textile Division as it stands today

The current Chairman of the group, Ted Andrew was the inspiration behind the introduction of Synthetic man-made fibers / needlepunch felt technology for Industrial Filtration Applications which helped to provide the first real foundation on which the group has been built. Having studied to become a textile technologist at Leeds University, Ted was able to see where the future lay and began investing in new equipment and started processing the new high tech fibers of the day to manufacture highly engineered technical needlepunch felts for the growing pollution control filtration market.

The founding of the BMP (Business Machine Parts) Division dates back to 1974. At that time Edward Andrew Ltd started the development and production of business machine parts for selective customers in the European market. The operations were located within the Edward Andrew Ltd facility in Bury, north Manchester and were treated as a division of this organization. As the business grew the need to expand allowed us to set up individual locations around the world.

Acquisition of Ahlstrom's Dust Filtration Felt and Automotive Transmission Felt material businesses

Andrew Industries acquired the Ahlstrom Wuxi plant in China and three production lines in their Bethune, South Carolina USA facility. The Wuxi plant in China will be managed by our China Felt management team and the Bethune production lines by our Southern Felt Company management team. The automotive transmission felts converting process (die stamping) will be relocated to the BMP Division's converting operation located in Juarez Mexico.
